A. THE MINISTRY OF JESUS

Acts 10:38 (KJV)

38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

1. The ministry of Jesus was an annointed ministry.

2. VINE, "Christ, Christos, annointed, translates in the sept. the word MESSIAH.

3. It was a definite point in time when Jesus was annointed with the Holy Ghost and power.

4.

I John 3:8 (KJV)

8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

B. Anointing IN THE OLD TESTAMENT

1. In the following passage, the anointing meant seperation and holiness.

Exodus 30:22-33 (KJV)

22 Moreover the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

23 Take thou also unto thee principal spices, of pure myrrh five hundred shekels, and of sweet cinnamon half so much, even two hundred and fifty shekels, and of sweet calamus two hundred and fifty shekels,

24 And of cassia five hundred shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary, and of oil olive an hin:

25 And thou shalt make it an oil of holy ointment, an ointment compound after the art of the apothecary: it shall be an holy anointing oil.

26 And thou shalt anoint the tabernacle of the congregation therewith, and the ark of the testimony,

27 And the table and all his vessels, and the candlestick and his vessels, and the altar of incense,

28 And the altar of burnt offering with all his vessels, and the laver and his foot.

29 And thou shalt sanctify them, that they may be most holy: whatsoever toucheth them shall be holy.

30 And thou shalt anoint Aaron and his sons, and consecrate them, that they may minister unto me in the priest's office.

31 And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, This shall be an holy anointing oil unto me throughout your generations.

32 Upon man's flesh shall it not be poured, neither shall ye make any other like it, after the composition of it: it is holy, and it shall be holy unto you.

33 Whosoever compoundeth any like it, or whosoever putteth any of it upon a stranger, shall even be cut off from his people.

2. "Anointing indicated preparation for service and the gift of God's Spirit"

I Samuel 16:13 (KJV)

13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.

3. In the Old Testament, Kings, Priests, and Prophets were annointed. Now Christians are annointed.

4.

Acts 1:8 (KJV)

8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

5.

ECH Vol. 3, p. 160

"This is that indespensable anointing that "makes preaching preaching" and that elevates even stumbling words of humble testimony to unexpected levels of influence.

C. THE Anointing OF CHRISTIANS TODAY

1. All Christians have the anointing in the sense that the Holy Spirit is in them and they can feel his presence and be sensitive to the moving of the Spirit.....In the Baptism of the holy Ghost the Spirit annoints with an abiding presence that enables us to do whatever we do for God in the anointing.

2.

II Corinthians 1:21-22 (NIV)

21 Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us,

22 set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

3.

I John 2:20 (NIV)

20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth.

4. "is real"

I John 2:27 (NIV)

27 As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit--just as it has taught you, remain in him.

BBC

"John expresses the relationship between the Christian and his God in terms of the anointing"

5.

Orton Wiley , Vol. 2, p. 324

"The anointing with the Spirit is a further aspect of this second work of grace - that which regards it as a conferring of authority and power. It refers therefore, not to the negative aspect of cleansing, but to the positive phase of the indwelling Spirit as "empowering the believers for life and service".

D. THE Anointing OF THE CHURCH

1. The annointed message and ministry of Jesus to the world

Luke 4:16-21 (KJV)

16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. 17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,

18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

20 And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.

21 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

2. This is what Jesus was reading

Isaiah 61:1-2 (KJV)

1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

3. This is How the Holy Spirit ministers the anointing to the people of God, the Church.

Isaiah 61:3 (KJV)

3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

4. "Beauty for Ashes" We are someone special in Christ

II Corinthians 5:21 (KJV)

21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

John 1:12 (KJV)

12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

Are you beautiful or are you a spiritual grasshopper?

Numbers 13:33 (KJV)

33 And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

5. "Oil of Joy for mourning"

Romans 14:17 (KJV)

17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

6. Garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.

Psalms 22:3 (KJV)

3 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.

II Chronicles 20:21-22 (KJV)

21 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever.

22 And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.

II Chronicles 20:28-29 (KJV)

28 And they came to Jerusalem with psalteries and harps and trumpets unto the house of the LORD.

29 And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of those countries, when they had heard that the LORD fought against the enemies of Israel.

7. The anointing made them like trees.

8. The anointing made the able to rebuild what Satan had torn down.

Isaiah 61:4 (KJV)

4 And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations.

E. ALTAR CALL

God has always operated in the anointing. It is essential.

Zechariah 4:6 (KJV)

6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.

Isaiah 10:27 (KJV)

27 And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.
